Thompson K-8 International Academy and Vandenberg World Cultures Academy Merge to Enhance Educational Opportunities

Vandenberg World Cultures Academy and Thompson K-8 International Academy have officially merged into one school under Thompson K-8 International Academy, a transition promising new experiences and opportunities.

The theme for the upcoming school year is “United in Excellence.” This theme emphasizes unity and collaboration as the two schools unite, highlighting our shared goal of achieving academic and personal success. This merger allows us to combine strengths, foster new friendships, and create a cohesive, supportive environment for the families of Southfield and Lathrup Village.

What We Offer

Reading Buddies

The Reading Buddies program at Thompson K-8 International Academy is a cherished initiative that pairs older students with younger ones to foster a love of reading while building meaningful relationships. Through this program, students in upper grades serve as mentors and role models, reading with and guiding their younger peers in developing literacy skills and confidence.

Family Math Night

Family Math Night at Thompson K-8 International Academy is an engaging and interactive event designed to bring students, families, and teachers together for an evening of fun, hands-on learning. This event showcases how math is more than just numbers; it’s a way to solve problems, think critically, and explore the world around us.

Peer Learning

At Thompson K-8, peer learning is an important part of how we build a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Recently, our second and third graders came together for a peer tutoring session focused on writing. During the session, third graders guided their second-grade peers through revising a writing piece, offering feedback and suggestions.
